Black And white photography gas long been a favourite genre of mine. My first photographs I ever made were black and white. The stripping back of the colour can often reveal much more. We see but we don't always look.
The impact of this image comes from light & dark, contrast of the tones in between the Blacks and the Whites, covering the whole image and also the local or micro contrast such as the moon and the sky. When light meets dark it seems to draw our eyes into the photograph, which in my opinion slows down our brain so that we actually start to look at the details. Such as the moon, the crevices in the mountains and the reflection in the water, such as here in Loch Etive.
The inspiration to make this photograph was inspired by my wife. It was a gloriouis day in February 2023, bright sunshine with a complete lack of wind, which is a rarity in Scotland. It was her first time in Glencoe and now she is smitten with the place.
"It's like another world here" she said as she laid back on the grassy bank with her book while I endeavored to make a photograph, to make a memory.
To make a photograph of "another world"
