Very recently a kind person said to me, "you have a real eye for a photo"
A nice comment indeed, thank you Ellie.
What does "having an eye" actually mean. I guess it may mean different things to different people.
For me getting good composition is paramount. If I can capture details in a larger scene, then brilliant. Having details in a larger picture can hold the viewers attention, and after all that's ultimately what photographers are trying to achieve, to grab and hold your attention.
The above image has some of those characteristics I've just mentioned. From the details of the Lions fur and whiskers to the the reflections in the eye. The reflection in the eye adds to the story.
The image was captured in not so ideal cirumstances, failing light, heavy lens, no tripod. This is also another reason why this photograph is a personal favourite. I remember very well what I went through to get the shot. Mainly patience.
